    Description

    This vehicle is a very interesting and extensively modified 1930 Model A Ford chassis with a mid to late 1931 Model A Ford slant window cabriolet (body model 68-C) or convertible coupe body setting on it. This chassis had a heavily modified 1929 Model A Ford coupe body on it many years ago when it was used to deliver rural mail in western North Dakota. The next to the last photo of this listing shows how that vehicle looked when it sold at auction last summer. I was helping my brother with the grain harvest at the home ranch in central Montana and could not be there. Some idiot from Australia bought the vehicle, stripped the heavily damaged coupe body off of the chassis and gave the chassis to a friend who sold it to the man I bought it from this spring. Unfortunately, the Australian could not appreciate the historical significance of this very special and interesting rural mail delivery vehicle and only cared about the rough coupe body on this chassis.
    I found the model 68-C slant windshield Cabriolet or convertible coupe body on a frame in a collection in a small town in western Montana last summer. I bought it along with a 1931 Model A Ford Deluxe roadster body on a frame and a 1929 Model A Ford sport coupe that is missing both doors and was made into a pickup many years ago. Both of the rear quarter panels on that sport coupe are heavily modified or damaged. I plan to sell the 1931 Deluxe roadster body soon here on eBay and have not yet retrieved the 1929
    sport
    coupe but hope to in a week or two. I have a pair of good loose quarter panels that can be used to fix the body on that car. All of these 3 Model A's along with a very complete 1929 Tudor sedan and a 1926 - 1927 Model T roadster body had been in dry storage in an old theater building since they were retrieved from local farms and ranches back in 1961 which was 57 years ago.
    It is very interesting to me that the chassis was painted John Deere green a long time ago and the left side of the cabriolet body was also painted that same color a long time ago. The body appears to be very complete except for the rear view mirror, some knobs on the landau irons and the pair of locks that hold the folding mechanism in place over the side windows when the top is in the raised position. Both of the doors have the correct window frames and regulators intact. The body has some rusted out spots in the rear fender wells, rear floor, rear quarter panels but is otherwise rust free. All of the wood sills and framing in the body as well as the wood top bows will need to be replaced if this gem in the rough is ever restored.
    The original ribbed implement front tires were 7.50 x 24 while the original lugged tractor rear tires were 9.00 x 24 on wider rims. I replaced both the front and rear tires with much newer used lugged tractor rear tires. Those newer front and rear tires are 11.2 x 24 which were 10.00 x 24 in the older tire sizing system.
    The engine turns over and appears to be complete except for the modified oil filler tube. The transmission is the stock Model A Ford car unit. Most of the rear axle appears to be a stock Model TT Ford (ton truck) unit with the dealer installed Ruckstell 2 speed option. The unit provided direct drive as well as under drive when more pulling torque was needed. The outer ends of the rear axle housings have 1928 Model AA Ford (ton truck) brake drums so that the 1928 Model AA Ford truck wire wheel centers will bolt in place.
    The front axle and front brake drums are stock Model A Ford car units with wheel centers used from the mid 1928 through later 1929 Model A Ford car 21" wire wheels.
    I will later explain how these wheel centers were adapted to the 24" tractor rims since I do not have access to my photos at this time.
    I will also mention the serial number on the original heavily damaged and modified frame that came with this body.
    I will also show the original Briggs Body Company serial number tag that is on this body.

    I also own the dark blue 1930 Model A Ford convertible coupe or cabriolet that was here on eBay several years ago and bid up to just below my ,000 reserve back then. That car is shown in the last photo of this listing as well as on many websites on the internet.

    I will mention that the front fenders came from the back of a McCormick Deering 10-20, 15-30 or perhaps even 22-36 farm tractor.

    Here is unique opportunity to acquire a very special Model A Ford that could be the center piece of your collection. I have priced it at a fraction of what the above mentioned car bid to here on eBay several years ago. I am currently looking for a good used 1930-1931 Ford Model A radiator and hood (preferably painted John Deere green a long time ago) to match the sheet metal on this car. At that point, I may attempt to make this car run and drive again. The doors are rather loose on the body so one would have to be very careful driving this gem.
