  • Condition: Very Good-Excellent overall vint cond: For sale is this fantastic & very exciting mid-20th c American Folk Art vint sgnd, hnd crvd & hnd pntd sporting wooden duck decoy by Gary Lowenthal, realized in 1965. This now 55 yr-old American wooden duck decoy feats the seldom portrayed Bufflehead Drake species of duck, w/its characteristic stout, compact body & tufted crest of gathered plumage atop its strangely shaped head. Perhaps only the Merganser Drake has an equally memorable, distinct form as does the Bufflehead Drake. The solid wood sporting accessory feats most likely white cedar wood construction, w/a stationary, stick-up style, where the head's fastened to the lower body & doesn't move or pivot L or R. The duck's sgnd on the baseplate in incised, cursive writing 'Gary Lowethal, (19)65 Bufflehead Drake.' It still has both of its orig, affixed glass eyes & is tri-colored, w/a deep charcoal blk, complimented by a noticeably raked off-white. The duck's bill is a deep pewter gray. Great.
