    Description

    Akan weights are pretty little brass, bronze and more rarely lead or iron figures from the pre-colonial period.
    The Akans are an ethnic group, located mainly in Ivory Coast and Ghana, it is made up of several ethnic groups, of which the best known are the Baoule and the Ashantis.
    These weights were once used to weigh gold powder during trade. The weights always carried a complex symbolic meaning.
    Figurative weights were also used as a support to elaborate stories, transmit knowledge.
    Today, weights are used for purely aesthetic purposes. It is used as a bead in the making of jewellery, ornaments for decorative objects and buttons in women's ready-to-wear.
