    Description

OTTO H. QUETSCH  (1865-1949) Chicago, Illinois  Mr Quetsch started making decoys in the 1930's and judging by the rarity of his birds today, they were not turned out in large numbers. Hollow bodies were made from 2 or more sections of wood.  Like this decoy he vented the decoy by inserting a small metal tube into the back behind the neck to equalize the inside temperature and pressure, thus reducing the chance of expansion and leaking.  I have seen others in the same style without the tube.  The heads are made to be moveable like the "Tru-dux" attatched with a large bolt from the bottom. Nice stylish working repaint.   See page 177 in"Decoys and Decoy Carvers of Illinois" by Parmalee & Loomis
