Description
Up for auction is a neattackeye
Black Duck made by the J. N. Dodge factory in Detroit, ca.
1890s.
While the bird appears to have a good deal of original paint, we believe that a dark brown wash has been applied to the decoy to even out the tone and to cover hunter applied knife lines or rasping to the body most likely applied to minimize reflection. Regardless, this is a neat looking decoy with lots of character.
The neck filler has been replaced and there is a filled repair in the middle of the back. It has certainly seen some use and shows appropriate wear including rubs to the bill, top of the head, end of the tail
as well as on the lower sides and bottom. Bare wood is visible in some places. More than half of the bill has no paint remaining. The body has a few shot marks. The bottom carries a lead strip weight as well a carved brand "E.H.C." Measures 16-1/4” long; 6” wide; and 6-3/4” tall. Please ask questions or for more photos. Shipping includes insurance and is higher outside of the USA. Thanks for looking.
