VINTAGE MASON/DODGE STYLE CANVASBACK DRAKE DUCK DECOY GREAT PAINT

Description

Up for auction is an
interesting decoy.  It is certainly reminiscent of both Mason andDodge factory decoys but its origin is unknown to us.  The head is very Dodge-like, while the body is similar to birds made by the Mason factory.  It could very well be a marriage of a Dodge head and a Mason body.  The paint is really tough to read. Blacklighting doesn't show much except the that it indicates neck filler replacement.  The breast is clearly repainted while the head appears have had a wash applied to it.  There is also a repair to the back of the head.  The white areas look to have had some light green paint taken off at some point as there is some residue still visible on the body.  The rest of the decoy may be in original paint and exhibits very nice feather detail.
